Anchor Road Groom River and the Anchor Stampers
NOTE: The track to the Anchor Stampers was severely damaged by flooding and is closed (21 April 2011). http://www.forestrytas.com.au/visiting/road-closures
Travelling from St Helen's, Anchor Road can be found about a kilometre before the turn off to St Columba Falls and the infamous 'Pup in the Paddock.' A half a kilometre up Anchor road is the start of the Halls Falls track.
Another few kilometers up Anchor Road a bridge is reached. If you look carefully you will see a small broken sign saying 'Anchor Stampers'. A very pretty fern laden track leads to more old relics of the mining area. Only 5 or 10 minutes one way. Well worth a look. Be aware, the road is very rough in one part. The road continues on and is also an alternative way to Piomena but is really only suitable for 4WD vehicles.
Groom River from the bridge across Anchor Road. The old track to the Anchor Stampers used to commence here. |
